Function vs. Aesthetic in Organization - How to Have a Happy Medium

Do you ever find yourself scrolling through Instagram and landing on a perfectly organized pantry complete with color coded shelves? Or a closet that seems to have only 5 items of clothing on one rod simply to make the closet appear more aesthetically pleasing? While these photos are absolutely gorgeous… We have to ask: Do you think that’s realistic?

For most people, probably not!

Here’s the thing though - there IS a way for you to have beautifully organized spaces in your home that are also functional. Our Stored Simply team prioritizes function when organizing a space, but we believe that when you have effective and functional systems, you achieve the result of a beautiful space. You CAN have the best of both worlds and it is a crucial part of achieving sustainable organization.

Wanna know a few of our secrets to creating a functional space with a beautiful aesthetic?

You don’t have to bribe us - we can share a few tips ;)

  1. Choose a bin that you can afford to buy multiple of so that everything matches! It’s easy to buy a bin here and there whenever you see a good one at TJ Maxx, but if you really research and find the right fit - it’s worth it in the long run to purchase the same style bin for a single space. For our clients, we provide 3 price point tiers when recommending product so you actually don’t even have to do the dirty work of researching pricing! This is offered for our On Location Organization and Virtual Organization Packages.

  2. Utilize a consistent label! Never underestimate the power of a good label. You can get as creative as you want with labels AND enjoy the functionality that a label brings to an organized space. If you label a closet well, your husband has no excuse for putting the towels in the wrong spot ;)

  3. Stick to a color scheme! An example of sticking to a color scheme could be the color of your towels. We recommend a neutral color so that the entire family is able to use them. You may have to gradually purchase in order to switch out all of your towels (we know some of you are holding onto those pink ones from college! It’s time to let go, my friend). You can donate the old ones or store a few away as “old towels” for big messes or pets!

You don’t have to sacrifice functionality for beauty, or vice versa - we help you achieve both!! Contact Stored Simply professional organizing service today for a 15 minute discovery call. Let us help you cut the chaos to create a beautifully, functional space!
