Finding the time to get and stay organized

It’s nice to see all of those beautifully organized photos as you scroll through social media, but do you ever wonder how those people have the time to get organized, let alone stay organized? Maybe you are wanting to create an organized system in your home, but just don’t know where to start or how you could devote an entire day to setting this up. Or, maybe, you have an “organizational system” in place, but it never seems to work and you’re always taking time out of your day to “fix” your system. We understand, friend! So that’s why we want to share our top 3 tips for finding the time to get and stay organized:

  1. Make A Plan - 1 hour of planning at the beginning can save you tons of time down the road. Heck, simply 30 minutes of planning can save you time! When you’re ready to get organized, take the time to initially figure out what space you want to organize, how to make it sustainable for your family, and what the best approach is for you. Don’t skip this step! Take inventory, draw a map… whatever it takes! Jumping in without a plan will create more chaos that it controls and will leave you feeling like you’ve wasted so much time for nothing in return. Taking time in the beginning to plan will help you use your time more efficiently and save time in the end!

  2. Manage Expectations - Know that when you’re organizing a place in your home or office, you won’t always see a drastic change instantly. You may not get that “picture perfect” system right away, and that’s okay. We can’t all afford to go out and buy $500 worth of new product to make our organization system look beautiful. Sometimes, we need to work with the items we have for the moment. Maybe even make a list of items you hope to invest in down the road! Don’t let unrealistic expectations and the fear of not having the perfect system stop you from starting your organization process today. Organization systems evolve over time to fit the needs of who is using it, so if you go into your plan with this in mind, you won’t waste time trying to create the “perfect” system from the get go.

  3. One Step At A Time - Organization doesn’t have to happen all in one sitting. You don’t have to finish creating your system the same day you start. Take each space one step at a time and work around your schedule. Have 30 minutes during baby’s nap? Great! Start organizing your stuff into categories! Have a 1 hour break between bedtime for the kids and when you go to sleep? Take that time to gather baskets you have on hand to use in your system! Take the organization process one step at a time and you’ll be amazed at the pockets of time throughout your day that you can find to work in organizing!

Creating a sustainable organization system doesn’t have to happen overnight, and it certainly doesn’t have to be perfect immediately - or ever!
